Howto create a bootable pen drive

Mandriva, old and reliable Mandriva, the Linux distribution choice of every Linuxer young man, can be used to generate a nice bootable USB pen drive.

- Get the application mandriva-seed.sh from the distribution source;
- Get the live CD of your preference, or instead of wasting your time choosing a distro, just get the best distribution here;
- Repeat the download of the file if the MD5SUM differs from the original;
- Locate the downloaded iso file and make sure it is located into a known directory;
- Execute the seed command: sh mandriva-seed.sh;
- Follow program directions choosing the path to the iso file containing the live distribution of your choice;
- Verify that the USB pen drive has been recognized by the program;
- Choose Create Live USB
- Wait a few minutes while your favorite operating system is transfered to your pen drive.

Alternative Method:

- You may use the UNetbootin program to generate your live USB pen drive. Look here for your copy of the UNetbootin program;
- It works similarly to the mandriva-seed.sh;
- There is also a version of the UNetbootin for windows system.

Método novo

As versões novas do Mageia e do Mandriva (e a maioria da distribuições atuais) estão utilizando imagens híbridas que podem ser gravadas diretamente em um pen drive ou HD, para tal utilize o dd como no exemplo:

dd if=/caminho/para/imagem/Mageia-versao.iso of=/dev/sdX

Onde /dev/sdX é o dispositivo que você quer gravar a imagem (nunca utilize partições, ex: /dev/sdc1, neste campo).

OBS: Este método irá APAGAR TODOS OS DADOS existentes no dispositivo SEM NENHUMA CONFIRMAÇÃO!!!
